One Piece booster box investing is a hot topic. Following in the footsteps of Pokemon, we are now seeing massive returns on One Piece product. However, the question becomes, is it still worth it for new hobbyists to invest in One Piece? Today, I’ll give you some reasoning as to why I believe so.
Deflationary Assets
The main thesis for me behind investing in sealed booster boxes is that it is a deflationary asset. In simple terms, this means an asset that decreases in quantity over time, often accompanied by an increase in value.
The prime example of what can happen with One Piece booster box investing.
This is exactly what we have seen in One Piece so far and is what we expect from a TCG. Generally, the first couple years after a set is released, the cards in that box are used competitively. However, after those initial years, we see sets go out of rotation. When cards go out of rotation, they are no longer tournament legal. When cards are not tournament legal, the printing companies tend to stop printing them.
What does this mean for our investments? Well, the first couple years after a booster box comes out, we should not expect massive growth. The reason for this is that, since the cards inside the box are tournament legal, those booster boxes are subject to reprints, leading to more supply on the market. As time goes on, those boxes get opened, leading to less price competition and higher prices.
However, this process can happen A LOT faster when we look at One Piece booster box investing.
Lack of Reprints for Premium/Extra Boosters
Bandai has shown they are (so far) not willing to reprint their Extra Booster (EB) and Premium Booster (PRB) sets. This has caused sets like the Memorial Collection (EB-01) and The Best (PRB-01) to explode in price in less than two years.
For those curious how much these sets have risen: EB-01 has seen a 134% return over the past 12 months, with PRB-01 beating that out with a whopping 199% ROI since November 2024.
This lack of reprints means that, if an Extra Booster or Premium Booster has strong chase sets, it becomes an even more powerful investment. This is the main reason I am a huge fan of EB-02 currently and recommend it as one of my top 5 best One Piece booster boxes to buy right now.
Expensive Chase Cards
Let’s be honest with ourselves, one of the main reasons people open a booster box is to try and pull the expensive chase cards. One Piece has been doing this as well as any game out there. For example, in the One Piece booster box “Awakening of the New Era”, there are multiple chase cards over $1000 USD.
Having such desirable chase cards has made OP-05 booster boxes an obvious choice for investors and collectors alike. Over the past 12 months, the booster box has risen 107% and currently sits around $360 USD on TCGPlayer.
Future Growth in Popularity
One of the things that excites me the most about One Piece booster box investing is that we are still early. The manga/anime have not finished yet while continuing to get better. The second season of the Live Action is coming out in 2026 with a season three to follow. OP-13, likely the best set Bandai has ever released comes out in a week. EB-03, a highly anticipated set focused on the Heroines of One Piece, will release early next year.
The point is that, there are many potential factors that could play a positive role in the growth of the One Piece TCG.
Conclusion
I am incredibly bullish on One Piece booster box investing for multiple reasons including the growing popularity of the IP, many sets having desirable chases cards, and most importantly, the fact that the booster boxes are deflationary assets in a niche where there is a consistent reduction in remaining supply.
